Synesthesia and Cymatics

After reading the Synesthesia article on Wikipedia I found myself extremely interested. I think it would be awesome to have a form of Synesthesia (minus the potential for sensory overload). The ability to see sounds or to associate different colors with different numbers or words seems like it would be really cool. Using Synesthesia in art could create limitless possibilities. If I had a form of Synesthesia I personally would want to have Chromesthesia. Chromesthesia, according to the Wikipedia article, is the ability to see sounds. Being a film major, I think this form of Synesthesia would be incredibly helpful. While reading the article I was imagining what I would do with Chromesthesia. The first thing that came to my mind was creating some sort of visual interpretation for Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata. I took a music class earlier in my college career and the first time I heard Beethoven’s Moonlight sonata I fell in love with it. Having Chromesthesia would, hopefully, allow me to create an equivalently beautiful visual representation of Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata.

Having just watched the video on Cymatics, after I finished writing the above response to the Wikipedia article, further strengthens my interest in the ability to see sounds and creating visual representations for music. I had no idea that by playing different sounds on a piece of metal covered in sand, as shown in the video, that the sand would create such intricate yet different shapes for each different sound.
